Our positions
A transparent and service-oriented administration in which residents have real influence and we stand alongside them against injustice.
The New Politics considers a roof over your head a human right. After all, more homes do not ensure
housing affordability, but rather more money for a few while affordability is further suppressed. The system must change;
market forces must be eliminated.
We see that we are currently building for those who will soon be allowed to live in the city. And unfortunately, those are not the Amsterdammers themselves.
At the moment, we see that the city can be inhabited by the poorest and the richest: social housing for those who cannot
afford it, and exorbitantly expensive homes to drive up revenues. There is no place for the middle income. There is no home for first-time buyers
. Students pay a price equivalent to a mortgage on the entire house where they rent their room.
How many entrepreneurs, teachers, maintenance staff, police officers, healthcare workers, etc., live close to their work? How many
municipal civil servants live in the city they work for? How many Amsterdammers are being driven across the city limits;
to Purmerend, Almere, and Lelystad? Can a child still get a home near their parents so that they too
can provide informal care in the future? Is there still room for first-time buyers?
Apparently not. Although current politics attempts to address the symptoms with band-aids and tries to
pit groups against each other, the system remains untouched.
De Nieuwe Politiek wants to single out a specific group regarding Housing: the caravan dwellers.
The Roma and Sinti were also deported to concentration camps during World War II. For years, the government
pursued a policy of extinction aimed at destroying their culture and their nomadic existence. In fact, nothing has been built for at least 25-30 years, but instead demolition has taken place. At least 60-75 pitches have disappeared. Approximately 8 more this year alone. Some laws restricting them date back to the Nazi era and have not been repealed. Their children are also denied permission to settle in a starter caravan. This must change radically.
